The Surprise that is Drosselmeyer, the Belmont Stakes Results p1

I was just about upset that Lookin At Lucky, winner of the Preakness Stakes, did not run the Belmont Stakes this year. Actually, winner of the Kentucky Derby Super Saver skipped Belmont Stakes as well. It was bad enough that there has been no Triple Crown winner for thirty-two years and even the last helping of the United States Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing was of no hope for a double win at this year’s Belmont Stakes results. But, that was not to say that the most demanding of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes was without surprises. The lack of previous winners from Kentucky Derby and Preaness Stakes meant the last leg of the Triple Crown was anybody’s err, ballgame.

Drosselmeyer, ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith was never and I mean never, expected to be the Belmont Stakes winner. Drosselmeyer was rarely even recognized during the course of the Belmont Stakes and was not even a part of the leading field. Not to mention that Drosselmeyer’s opening odds at the Belmont Stakes was 12-1. And to add to our surprise, the crowd’s favourite Ice Box finished a disappointing 9th, well, 8th after Uptowncharlybrown was stripped off with 8th place for violating the Belmont Stakes weight conditions. With that, I say that this year’s Belmont result was really full of unexpected twists and turns.
